Novella Carpenter started small, with some plants in an empty lot next to her house in Oakland. A couple of years later, she was tending to a full-blown farm, with goats, turkeys, ducks, pigs, and a robust garden. This video tackles questions of neighborliness (which is more offensive: police sirens or roosters crowing?), environmental poisons (raised beds are key), and the all-important slaughter question. The answer: Yes, she does (and yes, there is some bloody footage).
Just got a sweet review from the Library Journal on the fondant DVD with Robin. This is what they said:
Robin Hassett, co-owner of and baker at the Dessert Tray in Portland, OR, shares in this lively and informative DVD her tips and tricks for working with fondant, that mix of sugar, water, and flavoring that is the foundation of many candies and icings.
After discussing the basic tools and techniques, Hassett provides a recipe for fondant and then goes through the step-by-step process of decorating two different birthday cakes. Excellent production values and a well-designed menu allow viewers to navigate the DVD with ease. Hassett proves to be an engaging and cheery guide to the world of fondant, making this program the perfect choice for beginning cooks who want to start turning out their own colorful cakes. A useful addition to any public library cooking collection.—John Charles, Scottsdale P.L., AZ.

"A digital diary story in the Basilicata region, Italy (no.1)"
"Young dutch visual storyteller follows dream and undertakes a voyage of discovery to the unknown south of Italy. He ends up in a most curious place. It's one of worlds most ancient settlements, continuously inhabited, in the world called Matera. A behyve of alleys and streets, houses half cavated from rock formations. The first night he spends in a design hotel in a deep cave! From his new home he skims the region of Basilicata in search for stories to tell. He'd find an important reason to stay in these lands, yes of course: LOVE. Driven by fiery love and passion he seeks to become a local. But that's not too easy. Their standards are high: you have to have courage, speak the local language, eat and pray in order to love and be loved."
